On Tuesday, Aug. 17, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran declared that 85 percent of eligible adults in the county have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Curran said that the number is the highest rate in all of New York’s 62 counties, and is the third-highest vaccination rate in the country among counties that have a population of more than one million people.

Nassau has also outperformed state and national vaccination rates across most demographics, including seniors, youth, Black, and Hispanic residents who have come out en masse to get shots in their arms.

As of Aug. 17, 1,677,944 (4,337 new) first doses have been administered to Long Island residents, while 1,503,268 (3,232 new) have completed the process

A total of 77.7 percent of New Yorkers over the age of 18 have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 70 percent are fully vaccinated. Officials said that 65.4 percent of all New Yorkers have received at least one dose, with 58.5 percent completing the vaccination process.

“Nassau County has led the way in vaccinations since day one, and we’re committed to protecting our progress and building on it,” the County Executive said in a statement. “The vaccine is saving lives every day. If you haven’t rolled up your sleeve yet, now is the time.”
